Following what has been a very strange Spring for all of us, I’m now very pleased to say that we will be open for business and begin running walks again from the 4th July.

The Dales still looking stunning in Summer
We’ve been busy behind the scenes working to minimise the risk of any infection and ensure all of our guests can be confident of their safety whilst still enjoying the best wildlife and scenery Derbyshire has to offer!
- We’ve adjusted some of our routes and walk times to try to avoid many of the busiest locations during peak periods. Although wherever we go we are confident we can maintain adequate social distancing for our groups!
- We’ve reduced our group sizes, we will only be taking bookings for single household groups (or bubbles) of four people or less initially. This prioritises the safety of guests and should lead to more intimate wildlife encounters.
- We will be supplying hand sanitiser and gloves for clients use should they require them.
- In order to safeguard our customers we’ve made the decision to suspend our provision of packed lunches on our full day walks initially. We hope to bring these back safely and soon!
Whilst it’s a shame that we’ve missed the Spring season there is still plenty to see and appreciate in the coming months.
July sees the dales, meadows and woodlands alive with wildflowers and insects whilst young recently fledged birds abound. In the city Swift activity peaks late in the month with many breeding and non breeding adults and fledged juveniles massing in large social, feeding groups in the evening. A brilliant sight that can be seen on our urban wildlife walks.

Many orchids like this Chalk Fragrant Orchid will be at their best in Summer
August sees the heather moorland coming into bloom and taking on those wonderful purple hues. It also marks the start of return migration with juvenile waders stopping off to refuel in the wetlands. The warm nights are also perfect for a spot of Bat watching!
September and October see migration in full swing with summer migrants like the Swallow departing and our first winter migrants like the Redwing arriving in large flocks, whilst the woodland colours change from green to gold then red in a breath taking show. With the shortening days Autumn is also the best time to encounter some of our elusive mammals and is best time to head up to the Eastern Moors to search for Derbyshire’s rutting Red Deer!
Disappointed to miss out on our Spring walks? Well for each person booking onto any of our walks between July and October we are offering 25% off any walk between 1st March and 31st May 2021!
